Fall Roof Maintenance Tips

We are into August now which means fall weather is on its way. Football, changing colors, all of the pumpkin scented everything, and cooler temperatures will be here soon. So it’s time to take a step and make sure your roof is prepared for what the change in seasons is bringing.

Get An Inspection

A good rule of thumb is to have your roof inspected at least 1 to 2 times a year. This will make sure that you have everything in good working order. Right before spring to be ready for the wind and storms that come with that season, and before winter so you are prepared for snow and ice dams. Fall is going coming quickly and now is the time to schedule an inspection. Ensure that you have proper attic ventilation and all your shingles, valleys and ridges are intact to adequately flow snow and water off of your roof this winter.

Check Your Gutters

This one kind of seems a little too obvious right? As the trees change colors this fall, they lose those leaves as well. Twigs and other debris will collect on your roof and in your gutters. This added weight can damage both your roof and your gutters. Make sure they are free of debris and free flowing so you don’t have a disaster later on. You may also look to invest in gutter guard for your gutters to keep all the unnecessary junk out.

Check Windows

Are you not sure how windows effect your roof? They help to support the weight of the entire structure of your house as well as provide efficiency and temperature regulation. Make sure your windows are not sticking or hard to operate. Check for breezes and escaping are around the seals. This can be a sign of an uneven weight load.
