Spring Cleaning And Your Roof

There is nothing quite like the joy of spring. Coming out of several harsh cold winter months and finally seeing the sun again. Spending more time outdoors grilling, spending time with friends and family, and enjoying the weather. This is the perfect time to perform some seasonal maintenance as well and keep your home in order. We are going to talk about spring cleaning and your roof, and some things you should do before it get too hot outside.

Clean Your Gutters

Twigs, Leaves, and other debris builds up in your gutters over time. If they sat in there over winter, the clogs could get much worse. Gutters are an integral part of your roof and prevent foundation damage. Clean them out before the spring rains come and save your roof and your foundation from damage. In fact, this is a great time to trim any nearby branches while you’re up there. While you are at it, go ahead and wash off any moss or algae growth on your shingles as well.

Look For Damage

If you live in Oklahoma, you know that winter is unpredictable. Now that we are out of it, look for any damage from snow and ice. As ice dams form in the eaves of a roof, the buildup and added weight can cause damage. Look for shingles with washed away granules, cracks, and warpage. This is a sign that you have roof damage and may be prone to leaks.
